TVS Ultrasound for follicular tracking

Transvaginal ultrasound is used to examine the female reproductive organs. It is basically the internal examination of the ovaries, fallopian tubes and vagina. The ultrasound probe is passed 2 or 3 inches inside the vagina to determine the follicles within the ovaries.

Transvaginal ultrasound is used for follicular tracing which involves the examination of the follicles which is a fluid area where the egg grows. The pictures of the internal organs are taken and then they are analyzed by the radiologist to determine the condition.

Reasons

TVs ultrasound is normally performed when there is pelvic pain, the fetus is implanted outside the uterus, vaginal bleeding or there is some sort of abnormality in the uterus. The source of the bleeding or any possible miscarriage is determined or the complication the cervix is analyzed.

Procedure

The procedure is simple but it requires a little preparation from your side. You have to be comfortable enough to expose the operational area in front of the doctor and drink enough water if it is required. The doctor will guide you about the instructions beforehand.

Before the examination you are asked to lie down on the table, the ultrasound tube is covered with gel and condom to avoid any allergies and then it is inserted inside your vagina. Some sort of pressure will be felt. After that, the picture of the internal organs will be taken the wand is turn around to take pictures more closely and in more detailed way to examine the internal organs. There is another type of transvaginal ultrasound in which the sterile water is inserted in the uterus to examine the abnormalities inside the uterus. This is the latest technology called saline infusion sonography which give detail-oriented examination of the internal working then the previous method.  However, this test cannot be performed on the pregnant woman.

Risk Factors

Risk factor involved in TVSultrasound is almost none as no radiation are emitted during the imaging process. The tube is also covered with lubricating gel to avoid any sort of infections; However, the saline infusion sonography cannot be done on pregnant women or women having any sort of infections because it can ultimately affect the mother and fetus.

The comfortability level is maintained during the test. Some sort of pressure or bit of pain might feel when the transducer is placed inside the vagina.  The pain or pressure will be minimal but if you are feeling extreme discomfort or any sort of pain do ask the doctor.

Results

Ectopic pregnancy, cysts, pregnancy, miscarriage, fibroids, cancer of the reproductive organs, pelvic infections can be diagnosed using the TVS ultrasound. You will get the results immediately diagnosed if the procedure is carried out by the doctor. However, if it is not performed by some specialist then the record will be maintained and then send to the radiologist for analysis of the images. The further Infertility treatment, if there is any abnormality will be determined by the specialist or the doctor. The further tests will be recommended and medication will be provided in case of any sort of abnormality.

It might happen sometimes the images are not clear and no meaningful results are drawn form the diagnosis then the doctor can ask or call you to do the test again. In case of extreme discomfort during the procedure the doctor, the transabdominal test can also be performed to minimize the discomfort.

This treatment is useful for women who have a regular menstrual cycle and ovulation occur in the fertility window. Moreover, women who are under the age of 30 years and those who have some sort of unexplained infertility and not much time has been passed in that diagnosis then the TVS ultrasound test is beneficial for them.
